Stationary Positional Commands

Down - Regardless of its initial position relative to the handler, the dog must lie completely down on the ground without changing either direction or proximity to the handler. The dog must then remain in a lying-down position until released by the handler. During the DOWN, the dog must lie on its abdomen with its paws placed parallel to the body, this can be either in the so-called "sphinx" position or with the dog rotated slightly onto one hip.
Sit - Regardless of its initial position relative to the handler, the dog must place its rump on the ground without changing either direction or proximity to the handler. The dog must then remain in a sitting position until released by the handler. Whether the dog's hind feet are parallel to the body or splayed outward while the dog is in the SIT is not important as long as the dog does not slide from the SIT position into the DOWN position.
Stand - Regardless of its initial position relative to the handler, the dog must be up on all four feet and remain in a standing position without changing either direction or proximity to the handler. The dog must then remain in this position until released by the handler. During the STAND, the dog may move its head as long as all four paws remain on the ground at all times and the dog does not begin to sniff the ground or other objects in the vicinity.
Roll - Regardless of its initial position relative to the handler, the dog must lie on its back, preferably rolling towards the handler. The dog must then remain in this position until released by the handler. Note: ROLL does not mean rotate 360° as in the common trick command, once the dog assumes the position, it should remain there.
Up - Regardless of its initial position relative to the handler, the dog puts its forepaws up on a bench, table or counter. The dog must remain in this position until released by the handler. The typical release command from UP is OFF, although another positional command can be given instead (e.g., HEEL).
